Closing One Chapter, Opening Another
Closing One Chapter, Opening Another
Sometimes the hardest decisions are the ones you know are right.
Earlier this year, I stepped away from RadiusAI, the company I co-founded, and helped build from the ground up, with software now deployed in over 1,200 retail stores across the United States. Leaving wasn’t easy. But I reached a point where I no longer agreed with the direction the board was taking, and I didn’t believe the decisions being made were in the best interest of the company, its employees, or its investors. I’m proud of what we built together, and I wish the team nothing but success.
Seven Months in Vietnam
What came next was something I didn’t fully anticipate. My family and I spent the last seven months living and working in Vietnam — and it changed me in ways I’m still processing.
The Vietnamese people are beautiful. And I don’t just mean the landscapes or the street scenes that fill your camera roll. I mean the people themselves, their warmth, their work ethic, the way family sits at the center of everything. They know how to celebrate. Holidays, milestones, a random Tuesday; there’s always a reason to gather, eat together, and enjoy life.
One moment stands out. We were walking through a neighborhood when a family we had never met waved us over to sit and eat with them. They shared their food, their conversation, their time — and when we tried to pay, they wouldn’t hear of it. That kind of generosity isn’t performative. It’s just who they are.
A Reset I Didn’t Know I Needed
Living in Vietnam also gave me something unexpected: a physical and mental reset. I worked out most days. I slept better than I had in years. And the downstream effect was real. I was sharper, more creative, and more effective during the workday. There’s something to be said for slowing down in order to speed up.
What’s Next
My time in Vietnam is coming to a close, and I’m grateful for every bit of it. In the next few weeks, I’m moving back to San Francisco, and I’m genuinely excited about what’s ahead. We have lived in SF for 3 years before COVID and we love the city’s energy and inteligence.
New city. New chapter. Let’s go!
